BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) is available to exceptional non-EEA/non-EFTA students pursuing a full-time master's degree at Leiden University.
LEVEL OF STUDY:
With the exception of the LLM (non-advanced) and MSc degrees at Leiden Law School, all full-time Masters programmes at Leiden University.
NUMBER OF AWARDS:
The number and type of scholarships awarded are determined by the budget available to each Faculty department.
SCHOLARSHIP VALUE:
There are three scholarships available through the Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme:
• 10.000 € tuition fee • 15.000 € tuition fee • Total tuition price less statutory tuition charge
The LExS does not provide a complete scholarship. Non-EEA LExS recipients must still provide 'proof of sufficient funds' when applying for a student visa/residence permit.
ELIGIBILITY:
Students must have had exceptional academic achievements in their prior schooling, which must be related to the Master's degree for which they are applying. As an example, the student is in the top 10% of graduates from his or her prior study programme. It should be noted that verification of ranking is not necessary; this information is provided just to illustrate the level of competitiveness.
Applicants must hold a non-EEA/non-EFTA* passport and may be ineligible for study grants and loans (Studiefinanciering) in the Netherlands, with the exception of students applying for the LLM Advanced Studies programmes or the MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy, which have no nationality restrictions.
*All EU member states, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland)
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
To be considered for admission to a Master's course at Leiden University, you must first apply online. You must explicitly state in your application that you want to apply for the LExS scholarship in the scholarship area and attach your letter of motivation for the LExS award. The deadline for September programmes is 1 February, while the deadline for February programmes is 1 October.
